Storm Approaching

Day 10

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” - Mark 4:35-41

From a disciple's perspective, I think this applies to all of us who have walked with God. We've all come to realize that committing our lives to Christ doesnt make our lives smooth sailing with clear skies, but things do get rough sometimes. We often don't understand and question God's doing in all this, and his presence, but just as the passage says, he is always there. Where is our faith in such rough times?

In verse 36, it talks about other boats, what if we were another boat caught up in someone else's storm? I think this ranges, sometimes we feel the after effects, and sometimes we're right in the middle of it. I think I myself try to help the "main boat" in trouble. I know that when one goes through a rough time, its hard for them to see Christ working, and as a boat on the side, I try to help them realize the good God does, reminding them of God's faithfulness. There's only so much you can say to help another, I believe they have to truly realize themselves for them for them to grow.

Storms are placed in our lives to test our faith in Him, and help us realize when we're lacking faith. God is forever and always good and faithful, we must remind ourselves of that, rain or shine.

My Prayer: Lord, the storms of life can be scary and we may feel abandoned, but show us your power and ability to guide us through safely and may we see the goodness that comes out of it.
