More Than A Glance

Day 24
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. - James 1:22-25
"when we read or hear the Word of God, let it not pass through from one ear to the next, but instead let us apply it to our lives in the present. Those who do not apply it are like someone who forgets their image after looking at their reflection. Let us look deeply into the God-breathed scripture that has been granted to us and be blessed by it."

I do struggle with this from time to time, especially when I feel like the sermon or the passage I'm reading seems irrelevant to my life at that moment. But each moment we live is an opportunity for God to bless us so we should always be watching for that. It says clearly at the end that those who do not forget and those who apply it will be blessed in what we do. Who doesn't want to be blessed, and with these blessings we can continue to grow, but more importantly, bless others.

I also think I take the Word of God for granted sometimes, but it truly is a divine book that has been placed into this corrupted world. It is a text sent by God, breathed by God that gives us guidance in our lives, and we should treasure it. Sometimes we only read it like a textbook and study and analyze it, which is great, but we should take it further and recognize that it is the living Word of God. Thank God for the wonderful and wise scripture.

My Prayer: Lord, thank you for providing the bible and the Holy Spirit as guidance in our lives. Continue to bless us with what we read and hear, but more importantly through what we do. May we not only listen but apply all that you've spoken to us into our every breathing moment. Amen.
