Obedience in Christ

As I continue to read the following chapters of Ephesians, including the final one, chapter 6, I continue to realize that all of it is relevant to living for God, how we should act, and what it truly means to be a follower of God.  Paul again tackles how we should live with in three final aspects before concluding his letter.

Honor Your Father and Mother (v.1-4)
We're called to obey our parents, from the get go in the book of Exodus, it is one of the ten commandments we must follow. Our parents ultimately have much more wisdom and experience than us, and as our true parents, they have a genuine heart to look out for us and give what is truly best for us. They're the closest thing we have to our holy Father who resides in heaven. Obeying them will only do you good. Of course only if it aligns with the Bible.

Obey and Serve God (v.5-9)
Paul puts this instruction in an interesting manner by comparing our obedience to those who are enslaved to their masters. Just as we are to obey our earthly parents, we must obey our heavenly father as well. Unlike slaves, who obey for the favour of their master, let us choose to obey God wholeheartedly and from the heart. We will be rewarded for the things we have done.
Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. - Ephesians 6:7-8
Put on The Armour of God (v.10-20)
The walk with Christ is not an easy one, but we know its worthwhile because we are already saved, we are already forgiven and Christ is victorious over all things. The end is already determined for us, we just have to get there. As we walk, as we trust in the Lord, Satan is always on the lookout to bring us down and have evil spirits draw us away. So Paul encourages us to put on this armour of God, so we can stand against and stand firm in our faith. After all the war and battles, the most important thing is that we are still standing for our Lord and have not been knocked down. God supplies us with a belt of trust, a breastplate of righteousness, our feet fitted for readiness, a shield of faith, a helmet of salvation, and a sword of the Spirit. But most importantly, we are given scripture and prayer. We have to execute and practice these daily for us to win the fight and be strong. Its like food or supplements. Without our nutrients and energy, we grow weary and weak and cannot be as strong and cautious if one had eaten. We know the battle is coming, so why are we not prepared to win?

verse of the day: Ephesians 6:13
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
