Exodus: His Presence Made Known

If you've been a Christian for a while now, im sure you've heard about the story about Moses and the burning bush. But I clearly remember in the past, in Children's Sunday School, it would just be stories told by a teacher holding a picture book. And today, i got the chance to look at it, coming from the Lord's mouth.

To sum up what happens, one day Moses notices a burning bush, and he walks over to check out the situation and finds himself in the presence of the Lord. He is instructed and promised by God to go and set his people free from Egypt, to bring them out of their oppressed slavery, and to bring them to the land of milk and honey. But when you truly dive into his Word and read it, you see many new and subtle lessons hidden in the text.

First of all, God most definitely speaks in the craziest, most mysterious ways. As clearly shown in verse 2, "the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush". That is one of the most random and outrageous ways God has approached and made himself known to someone. I know that sometimes for us, when trying to hear God that it isn't as obvious as a bush set in flames, but God can and will make himself known to you if you are willing to hear him.

Which brings me to my next point. In verse 2-4, it clearly states that Moses saw the bush first and then headed towards it before God started to call for him. Moses wasn't just walking down the road and a roadside bush burst into flames, Moses noticed it first. There is a distinct difference. Watching vs. Waiting (Matthew 26:41). When we are waiting for a reply from God, we have to be watching. When we watch, we have to be on the lookout for Christ. Whereas if we are waiting, we are just staring at the clock waiting for God to poof out of the blue in front of us. Moses noticed the bush and made the initiative to go over there. He could have just kept walking and ignored it, but he saw it first. Are you looking for signs of God in your life? Maybe he's calling you right now, you just need to notice it.

When God approached Moses in the bush and instructed him, if you look at it from a wider perspective, the israelites in Egypt had not idea that was going on. In the same way, whenever we are in distress, or trouble, its very possible and highly likely that God has a separate plan in the works, to help you, whether it be an event, or a person to come into your life to support you.

The conversation held between Moses and God in verses 7-14 is probably the exact same as the conversation we'd have with God. Moses was constantly questioning God, why me? how am i supposed to do all this? Im sure that when God instructs us, we are all scared, we feel weak, not good enough for the job, but God uses the weak and the small to do great things. We fear the consequences, but when you think about it, what bad consequences come out of working with a God so great? Do you have faith that God picked you for a reason? Are you willing to jump in head first, wholeheartedly for God?

How is your faith with Christ?
Are you following him fully?
How often do you feel the presence of Christ?

verse of the day: Psalm 16:11
11
You make known to me the path of life;    you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
