Exodus: Adopted

Exodus 2 revolves around the introduction of Moses. He was born in a family of Levites, and had to follow the law by killing off the baby boy, but out of grace and love, his parents werent able to give him up. Instead they raised him, and eventually sent him into the Nile. Because of God's grace and plans, he was found, by none other than the Pharaoh's daughter. She returned the baby boy to his mother and paid her to raise him for her. The baby boy was named Moses; meaning "i drew him out of the water." (v. 1-10)

We then speed up in time, and see Moses all grown up. In the next section, many things happen to Moses that help him get to where he is by the end of the chapter. But as readers, we can see from afar, God's excellent work and plans. He first saw a quarrel between an Egyptian and his own people and killed the Egyptian. When he found out that his deed was revealed even though he tried to conceal it, he was on the lookout for the Pharaoh who wanted to kill him. He then chose to escape to Midian, which is east of Egypt, and there he encounter seven daughters of Reuel, a Midian priest. Out of love, he helped them with their daily chores for one day, and soon enough was taken in by their family, got married to Zipporah, and gave birth to Gershom. Meanwhile in Egypt, the king had died, but the Israelites continued to struggle in slavery. (v. 11-25)

Last post really taught me to look in different perspectives, and if you were in the shoes of Moses' mother, how would you react? How could you give up your son? And then have him returned to you and be told to take care of him for someone else? That must be so painful, and difficult to watch. But its amazing that God would have saved your son.

Again, as readers, we see everything from a birds eye view, and its interesting to see how God's plan for Moses and the Israelites slowly unravel. Seeing how mysterious he works, and being reassured that the exact same magic is going on in our lives.

I believe in "what goes around, comes around", if you bless others, you will be blessed. Not saying that your life will be perfect and dandy, but that God will continue to bless you, just as he did with Moses after he helped the seven daughters. He was taken in, had a marriage and started a family. Moses was basically adopted. In this chapter, i guess one could say the concept of adoption comes up twice, when he was taken in by the Midian family, and when he was found and taken in by the daughter of the Pharaoh. But we were also taken in by Christ. When we were doomed, as death was the consequences of our sins, Christ came and died for each of us, giving us life and salvation through him, the Father and the Holy Spirit (Romans 6:23).

If we somewhat know the story that is to come, we know that Moses is used by God, even though he was weak. small. fragile, and unsure, God still had a plan for him, as he does with us.

Something that stuck out to me, was verse 25 when it said "God was concerned after remembering his covenant to Abraham, Issac and Jacob". I never really felt like i've seen anything like that before, where he was concerned. It sounds like God was troubled, was unsure, and it really showed me another side of my King of the Universe. He was concerned. For his people. For you and me, he was thinking about us, we were on his mind. Isnt that amazing? That someone so great, the author of salvation was thinking of us, we were at the forefront of his mind!

That's it for now, but does Exodus consists of 40 chapters, and i hope i really dont give up halfway. Im praying God keeps that flame in me burning and yearning for him as I grow in his Word and life.

verse of the day: Jeremiah 29:11-13
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosperyou and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
