Exodus: The Passover

Heading into Exodus 12, i had no idea that I was about the read about one of the most significant events that happened in the Old Testament, The Passover. Reading through the longer chapter, God gave so many detailed and specific instructions to Moses and Aaron to carry out, from having the lamb being roasted on fire, cannot be boiled, how the blood had to be placed around the door frame, and that one night, all the first borns that were not in the homes with blood around the door died. Finally the Pharaoh was impacted, and let the Israelites go, all men, all women, the children and the livestock.

While I read the passage, the amount of detail and specifications really stood out to me, i didn't understand how or why God had so many little things that had to be carried out so strictly. But it really emphasized the importance and the seriousness. The gravity of what was to happen, what God was going to do. At the same time, sometimes there are things in our faith that are just as important. For instance, communion. Every first sunday at church we would have communion and we'd spend time reflecting on Him, proclaiming his death until he returns. In the passage, 1 Corinthians 11, in verse 27-29, it talks about examining ourselves, because if we do not discern Christ, we drink judgement upon ourselves. There are things in our faith that are that serious and need to be taken strictly.

Although some of the things seem to sound ridiculous, (i.e.. there cannot be leftovers or it must be burned, or eating bread without yeast) do you have faith in God? Will you follow and do what he says? Do you have complete trust that he will carry out his promises for you?

The last part of the chapter, God listed many regulations and restrictions on the passover, and reading through it sounded like a drag, but it reminded me of all the "regulations and restrictions" God has given us. An example being refraining from sex before marriage. Although we may think, why is God trying to restrict us from having fun? from living life to the fullest? the thing is, we may take these as restrictions, but the truth is God is truly trying to protect you. But will you believe that? Do you have faith that God will provide you with everything and that you will make the most of your life by following these "rules"?

verse of the day: Exodus 12:12-13
12 “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn of both people and animals, and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord. 13 The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
