Exodus: On Eagle's Wings

Throughout the book of Exodus, we've seen God reveal himself to Moses and the Israelites, from the plagues to the pillars of cloud, but here in chapter 19, his presence is shown more than ever. Now they've reached the Desert of Sinai, where the great Mount Sinai is located. Here, God speaks to Moses and tells him how to prepare the Israelites before he reveals himself to Moses, from abstaining from sexual relations, having clothes washed and all, i think its to prepare them to be as pure and holy in his presence.

When God comes, you'll know. In verse 18 we get a simple small glimpse of his presence, and it stuns me as i try to fathom and imagine this. It says,
18 Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.
Can you imagine that? A mountain shaking, smoke, fire, its like a crazy production to a theatrical cinematic opening. Just his simple presence makes the earth tremble. Do we fear a God of such power and strength?

As I read the extra content that i usually do for devotions, they brought up verse 4, and drew my attention to "eagles wings". It says,
‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.
We've seen in all the previous passages, how God carried the Israelites, from the slavery in Egypt to the countless complains in the desert. Are we willing to let God carry us through times of darkness and trouble? Do we have such faith and trust in a God so powerful? What is holding us back from letting go?

Find comfort under God's protecting, powerful wings.

verse of the day: Isaiah 40:28-31

28 Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.
