The She-Warrior.

I decided to check out a new church during my second weekend at Guelph, and i visited Harvest Bible Chapel, a church in Cambridge that connected Waterloo, Laurier and Guelph which was pretty cool because i got the chance to see some of my Waterloo/Laurier friends. Coming to this church reminded me of home more than Parkview, the church i went to two weeks ago, just from sitting in the seats, sitting in the gym, having to stack chairs afterwards, it was all too familiar. Today, the topic was on "The Christian She-Warrior and Her Contribution to Her Family's Lifestyle." And even though it was based on womanhood, it surprised me how applicable it was in certain cases. I'd just like to share what i got out of it.

Proverbs 31:13-19 is the passage they focused on, and basically it described a female figure who embodied full womanhood.

13 She selects wool and flax
    and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
    bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
    she provides food for her family
    and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
    out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
    her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
    and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
    and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

Here are the main points.

1. She makes sure her family lives better than they should.
- like it says in v.14, "like the merchant ships" or how the pastor put it, "she manages her family like an aircraft control tower."
- she wants to see her family clothed in Christ's righteousness.

2. She feeds her family early.
- v.15 says that she rises up early to provide food, a warm hearty meal for her family.
- "gets up while it is still night", like a lioness, she is up ready to hunt and stalk her prey, protecting her family, from sunrise to sunset.

3. She invests wisely.
- you reap what you sow.
- she's is constantly figuring out her resources to invest to provide a better tomorrow and bring a better future to her husband, family, and children.

4. She strengthens herself for battle.
- in the passage here, it means her physical self, constantly working hard for her family (v.17)
- she is strong, capable and ready for battle when conflict arises.

5. She prepares her family for the darkest night.
- she helps her family prepare for the dark times, she works with her family to be the light when all seems lost.

i'll end it with a quick quote i got from the sermon,

"the virtuous woman loves her business better than her ease and her pleasure."

this is the woman we as single men should be looking for,
this is the wife you should be in a family.

verse of the day: Proverbs 31:13-19
10

A wife of noble character who can find?
    She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
    and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
    all the days of her life.
