Exodus: Say One, Do Another

"yeah i'll wash the dishes later Ma! I promise!" but you end up falling asleep while watching tv.
"i'll finish studying after this episode of FRIENDS." but then the clock strikes 11 after five other episodes.
"just give me five more mins okay? five more minutes." but within a blink of an eye, five becomes fifty.

how often do we follow our word?
how often do we broke commitments or promises?

I know i've done it several times, whether if it to myself, to a friend, to my parents, and even to God. So many times we say something and do another, and we end up slipping up into failure. In chapter 24, we finally see the covenant be confirmed, that image of Moses holding up the two stone tablets with the law engraved by God. Moses is the only one commanded to go up to the mountain, while all the others stayed behind, waiting for his return.

When Moses spoke back to the Israelites, they responded with "we will do everything the Lord has said, we will obey." This happens twice in both verses 3 and 7, and when i read it, I heard it robotically. I felt like they just said it for the sake of saying it. And if we read on in the future chapters, they quickly go ahead and go against their words, building a golden calf to worship. Their response should be a response that held for the rest of their lives, and we should all aim to obey whatever God is said or commanded.

Its okay that we mess up sometimes. We're normal and we cannot be perfect, and the best part is knowing God forgives and is merciful. When we confess, God will give us a second chance, a third chance, he is a good and just God (1 John 1:9).

verse of the day: 1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
