It's Not About The Money, Money, Money

Money. The world today pretty much revolves around money. Society says its all about becoming rich, calling us to spend and keep spending; and although it does play a significant role in our lives each and every day, it most certainly is not everything.

Do you have a love for money? Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 6 that it is a root of evil, potentially leading us away from our faith (v.10), scripture also says that our desires to be rich will lead to destruction and ruin (v.9).

Or are we content with what we have?

There are so many levels of richness. Us living in north america, europe, first world countries hold the richest people on the planet, if you look around you, you'll see how much you really have compared to the rest of the world. And then there are billionaires, lottery ticket winners who almost literally have everything. But I've always been reminded, what does this get you in the long run?
For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. - 1 Timothy 6:7
It's not like we cant take our money with us after death, and even though it may give us temporary satisfaction, I don't think anyone will ever get a point where they are 100% satisfied with what they have. They will always want more, the latest gadget, or another sports car or what not. Paul is right in saying it leads to other evils, it leads to envy, idolatry and greed. Isaiah 55:2 questions working towards something that does not satisfy, what is the point of that? Labouring night after night towards something so hopeless and temporary?

Instead, pursue what is eternal. Godliness, righteousness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness (v.11). Shift your perspective and put your hope in God rather than riches, and even if you are rich, billionaire, or just blessed enough to be living under a roof, be generous and give.

I know lately with all my job hunting, i have been well aware that I mustn't fall into the traps of money. I do hope to make some money this summer, but Im trying my best to stay on guard and to not let that take over and jumble up my priorities.

Put your hope in the Lord and he will bless you and enrich your life with eternal, everlasting things.

verse of the day: 1 Timothy 6:17-18
17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
