The Fruits of The Spirit: Peace

"Peace"

Every single day we are surrounded by commotion, by noise, from hearing the honking cars just outside our windows, the constant chatting at school, the printers and scanners at work, and the buzzing of the bees. Today's modernized day, there's practically no space and no time for silence and peace. At the moment, i have to be playing music. Its hard for me to work in silence. Look at how media and society has changed. I cant study in total silence, i have to have something playing.

When was the last time you experienced peace or silence? When was the last time you sat, lied down, stood, closed your eyes and heard nothing? I believe that we have to always have this time of silence. To reflect on our lives; what to improve, what to change, what we've done wrong, but more importantly, to spend time with God. God speaks in wondrous ways. Its usually a whisper in the wind, and with all this environment of din we are constantly, in, its hard to hear him. Sometimes God decides to boost up the volume. If you dont hear the whisper, he'll say. If you dont hear that, he'll yell. But instead of waiting for these times of yelling, we should take the time to quiet down and listen. Listen for what he has to say to us.

I've tried it once in Sunday School, where we mediated. For me, it didnt work at all. We were told to listen, imagine whatever comes to mind and focus on Christ alone. It just didnt work for me. They also challenged me to just lay in bed. Set some time to just lay in bed, without drifting off the sleep, trying to hear God's voice in your life. Again, it didnt work for me. But i challenge you to do it. You never know, maybe lying in bed is where you'll find a true state of peace. You'll never know until you try.

Look at Christ for instance. When he prayed he went up to the mountain to pray while his disciples stayed, sat, watched, and eventually fell asleep. First, notice how Jesus directed himself away from the city, from the noise to talk to Christ. Do it. Close your doors, maybe sit in your closet, go to an empty park, row out to the middle of a lake. Listen and talk to Christ in silence without distractions. Also, the disciples fell asleep. Stay awake, stay cautious. You're talking to Christ, you shouldnt be falling asleep!

Peace. You need peace in our lives. We all do. My home phone just rang. Noise is everywhere. We need the silence in our lives. To reflect and to concentrate on Christ. Bear this fruit.

16Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all. - 2 Thessalonians 3:16

verse of the day: Philippians 4:7
7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
